Vista Use is Finally on the Rise
Yes, Windows Vista has had its share of ups and downs, but it looks like adoption rates are finally on the rise. Good news for Microsoft. Likely bad news for tech support centers around the world. According to a new study by CDW, 48% of 772 IT employees in a decision making position are now using or evaluating Vista. Apparently they couldn't find enough actual users, so their counting people who are evaluating the product as well to make that number look as large as possible. Despite the inflated percentage, the study concluded that there was still a 14% boost in corporate users since February 2007. Of those surveyed by CDW, a whopping 35% said they were in the process of moving to Vista compared to only 12% at this time last year. That's a pretty big gain--especially considering that nearly 45% of the respondents will have the move completed by May 2008. The survey didn't just stop at Vista, however. They also asked about Office 2007 adoption rates. Apparently a quarter of those surveyed had already updated to the latest version of Office (for the PC) as opposed to only 6% at this time last year. One of the most interesting statistics in the survey was that nearly half of the respondents said that Windows Vista performed as well as or better than they thought it would. Those respondents cited Vista's security, performance, productivity, search, and updates as the operating system's best features. Reading this, I had to chuckle. Vista's performance was one of the main reasons why I now use OS X and Ubuntu almost exclusively. I guess those surveyed must have been using an early copy of SP1. |
